In his thesis titled “Structural Analysis of the Hub of a Rental Kart and Optimization through Mesh Morphing” Lorenzo Mazzaferro collaborated with one of the leading companies in Kart production, CRG.
This company boasts an impressive clientele, including renowned Formula 1 drivers such as Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton.
Lorenzo was tasked by CRG to conduct a study on a specific component of a rental Kart: the rear hub. This component plays a crucial role in facilitating the rotation between the driving shaft and the tire. As the hub undergoes motion, it experiences significant loads. The objective of this project is to perform a structural analysis of the rear hub and enhance its performance by reducing internal stresses. To achieve this, the RBF Morph software is utilized for optimization.
