PANDORA

PANDORA is an EU‑funded initiative charting a new course for cardiovascular surgery through patient‑specific digital twins of the aorta. Fusing AI‑driven image analysis with high‑fidelity, in‑silico simulations, the project enables surgeons to trial different grafts and operative strategies in a virtual environment before entering the operating theatre. This predictive capability is designed to steer clinicians toward the prosthesis and technique most likely to minimise graft kinking, abnormal wall stresses and other post-operative complications.

Coordinated by Forbes “Top Under 30” scientist Dr Leonardo Geronzi, the consortium unites Italian and French excellence: LivGemini oversees software industrialisation; RBF Morph supplies mesh‑morphing algorithms for AI training; Université de Rennes extracts 3‑D anatomical models from clinical imaging; INSA conducts material testing on Dacron grafts; and Rennes University Hospital validates the platform in real‑world cases. Working under the FFplus umbrella, these partners aim to transform surgical planning from an experience‑based art into a data‑driven science.

Licensed to medical‑device manufacturers for seamless integration into hospital IT systems, PANDORA promises faster, more personalised device selection, shorter operative times, improved outcomes and lower costs for healthcare providers. The project’s development phase sets the stage for a clinically validated solution that will bring next‑generation decision‑support tools from research labs into everyday operating rooms.

Pandora is financed by Fortissimo Plus.
